2011 - My second year of blogging in Brittany

I felt I would like to share some of the photographs I have taken so far this year and some from other years. I live in a beautiful part of Brittany and just love being here. It's a lovely place to photograph and enjoy being in through all the seasons and hopefully this blog will show you where I live my life.

Sheds, sheds and sheds

I have a thing about sheds.  I always have.  One of my friends in Cornwall called my garden "Shed City".   I had a duckhouse on the island in the pond, a chicken house, two log houses, a bike shed, a rabbit shed and three summerhouses.  Most of them were bought in flat packs although two were homemade but very conventionally.

Here in Brittany, coming down the lane from the nearest village to me there is a selection of wonderful sheds.

The sheds are all within a run of 200 metres and not one of them has been "bought in".  I love the materials they are made of and how they have weathered and rusted.

Here in my hamlet I have a duckhouse, chicken shed, barn, straw shed, rabbit house, barn, shelters and two small houses for hens.  Here is the rabbit shed in the snow a couple of years ago.

And this shows my barn, straw shed, shade shelter and the old pig shelter on my field.

Here's my neighbour's collapsing barn and my other neighbour's shed in the orchard.

This is my old pig shelter which the goats have always liked to sunbathe on.

When I used to go back and forward to school at the beginning and end of terms, it was by steam train and from the train you looked into everyone's back garden and saw the most wonderful sheds.  Perhaps it was this early experience which has promoted my love of sheds.

Three things I like:

1.   Making a meal from leftovers in the fridge.
2.   Finishing the novel, in good time, that I am reading for the Book Club next Monday.
3.   Finding all the ducks in their area and not outside the fence this evening.

  1. Hi Sandra, Ok now I have massive shed envy :-) I need a new hay shelter and I would love a greenhouse but funds are sadly lacking so I will just have to wait and be content with trying to sort out my garden in the meantime. Keep the lovely photos coming :-)

  2. Hello Kay Once I start looking at things I can't stop, and sheds are now definitely my thing! Do look at Freecycle in your area, I still belong to the St Austell branch, and the Truro one too, and still get things from them through the children. I have seen greenhouses on there and have myself had too many things to list. When I look at the Plymouth branch I don't think you'd ever need to buy anything new again they have so many things posted. Sandra

  3. I love all the rustic tumbledown outbuildings here. We don't have anything in stone and I'm wildly jealous of everyone's barns and bread ovens etc. My chicken and duck shacks are Heath Robinson affairs made of old doors, windows, garage doors and a bit of corrugated iron though, by the previous owner of this house, and I've become strangely attached to them..... lol

  4. Hi just found your blog, it made me laugh because me and hubby had been talking about a shed, wo do have one but of course isn't big enough for hubby, men and their sheds!, but we woud have to take every single piece through the house as we have no back access, so now he thinks he'll build one... Lol... Your sheds are great, hope you can visit my blog. Julie xxx

  5. Hello Julie Thanks for visiting my blog! I've just visited yours and made a comment on the one where you show some Vernon Ward paintings. I just love sheds and hope you find a way of getting it into your back garden! Sandra x
